This is just the thing to see after a hard day at work. Mindless, violent (but not that violent), well-made, professional entertainment: an entirely satisfactory vehicle for an action star. Sylvester Stallone plays a model prisoner with six months to serve, who's suddenly, unbelievably and brutally transferred to a maximum security prison whose warden (Donald Sutherland) he once made a fool of in more ways than one. The plot's a joke, of course, but who cares? The mechanics of making a hard-hitting and effectively thrilling prison story with all its stereotypes and clichés intact are what matter here. Stallone does all that you could ask, and you can even understand some of his dialogue; Sutherland proves he's as effective as a psycho as in quieter roles. Forget your worries, sit back and let those brain cells not frazzled by the day just mop it up.
