This is the one about the policeman who goes undercover with a gang, is attracted to its leader's charm, and falls in love with the bad guy's sister. As old as the hills, then, right down to the ritual shoot-out climax. Still, this version is quite well done, with the youth of D B Sweeney as the cop and Charlie Sheen as the crook lending an uncomfortable edge to the familiar tale. Sheen in particular catches the eye with a compelling portrayal of the mask of reckless boyishness that hides a deadly core. Car chase excitements punctuate the theme of cat and mouse and the story, honed to hyper-tension by such tactics, entertains all the way.
