A routine horror tale of demonology and priestly temptation, this chiller has all the expected ingredients of the genre: passable special effects, oodles of gore, nubile maidens in flimsies and bags of dry ice floating up from the ground. Very sub John Carpenter, but quite good fun for fans of this sort of thing, if a bit nasty for the average cinemagoer. Cross is the priest who must do battle with a demon from Hell and makes rather a meal of it (all he has to do, for God's sake, is call it by name) and Howard, Holbrook and Beatty do their bit as the usual grim-faced priests and detectives. Only William Russ, as the sub-Brando owner of a devil-worship club, is a character away from the ordinary in this kind of thing.
