Oliver Stone's brutal vision of the Vietnam war as witnessed first hand by the ordinary foot soldiers, or 'grunts', made a star out of Charlie Sheen, through whose shell-shocked eyes the atrocities are seen.

Bloody action abounds in this grim, ultra-tough and extremely well made movie, which won four Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director.

It's by far Sheen's best performance. Spot Johnny Depp well down the cast.
