Michael Caine is a master jewel thief in a largely enervating Bryan Forbes drama whose constant chat undercuts its potential as a suspense thriller. Eric Portman is drily admirable as the fellow-robber whose wife Caine fancies, but the supporting cast is largely dull and uninteresting. Best sequence: Caine bringing off a daring cat burglary at great risk to life and limb, intercut with clips from the concert attended by the owners of the house he is robbing.
