Alfred Hitchcock's last film is perhaps lightweight Hitch, but still an entertaining comedy-thriller in which the Master gets more chance than usual to display his sense of humour. Classic Hitchcock situations abound in the story of a fake spiritualist (Barbara Harris) and her cabbie lover (Bruce Dern) who are out to find the long-lost illegitimate nephew of a millionairess who wants to leave him all her money. It's not giving too much of the plot away to say that the nephew turns out to be a notorious kidnapper (William Devane). Trails cross, uncross and cross again in a typical Hitchcock finale. The stars all give good performances, while remaining subservient to the director's demands on the plot and especially such set pieces as a car chase and a funeral. There's even some serviceable suspense at the end with Miss Harris' life in danger.
