In this addition to Hammer Films' celebrated Dracula cycle, the action takes place in England instead of Europe. The reactivating process for the dreaded vampire is a quantity of red powder contained in a phial. It may be innocent-looking in itself, but once it's mixed with human blood - up pops the dreaded Drac! The film differs from its predecessors in that Dracula himself, here in a vengeful frame of mind, remains substantially an onlooker while others accomplish the death and destruction. Director Peter Sasdy stages some effective shock moments, particularly in scenes shot inside a church. It goes downhill, though, after the first three reels.
