Back into 1942, Julien Duvivier made a celebrated film Tales of Manhattan, which followed the adventures of a dress coat from pristine newness to scarecrow condition. The Gun does something similar, but with a 38 Police Special gun. Its writers, Richard Levinson and William Link, are two of the finest in the business, with the creation of Columbo and several mind-twisting thriller films to their credit. Director John Badham has since seen his career take off through the massive success of Saturday Night Fever, Blue Thunder and WarGames.
