The actress made her big screen debut in the little-seen 2000 German black comedy Undertaker's Paradise.
After studying drama at Wrexham College, she quit after a year to study improvisation under coach Charles Darrow.
She hade made her screen debut the year before in Butterfly Collectors as a young girl on the sink estate.
"Don’t listen to a single bloody soul, cos the first audition I went on, the guy said" ‘don’t call us darling, we’ll call you’."
The gritty role led to her being cast as the abused young mother of three in the TV movie Little Bird and Don Boyd's Liverpool crime drama My Kingdom.
Director Justin Edgar's comedy Large was followed by a starring role in the 2005 British horror yarn Spirit Trap with Billie Piper.
