Closer
Four beautiful young things swap beds and share intimacies in Mike Nichols' bleakly intense exploration of infidelity and jealousy. Clive Owen and Natalie Portman were both Oscar-nominated for their performances in this dark exploration of the psyche written by Alan Partridge creator Patrick Marber. It's also Julia Robert's strongest role in an age as one of the deceiptful quartet.
Hmm, this movie really confused me. On the surface it's unbelievably crude and just plain filthy, I can honestly say I didn't really enjoy it. That's just the thing, there only IS on the surface, no matter how hard you try and look for some deep, hidden meaning, there isn't one. The movie is not worth watching, unless you like the idea of meaningless sex over and over and over and over again...
Laura Hume
Although only four characters in the whole film, it kept you interested. Funny moments shared with some sad ones.
Diane Thorne
Brilliant film! Anyone who has had a truly passionate relationship will relate to the charaters. I have heard some people comment that it is too crude but this is the kind of sex that goes on behind closed doors in England. I believe anyone that is in touch with their sexual self will find this film a breath of fresh air as it is so real and such a turn on.
Owen out acts Law in every scene but brilliant casting.
Tom Ewing
Natalie Portman looked Ok, Julia Roberts wasn't bad, but Clive Owen and Jude Law looked sooooo gorge I could have eaten them. It's a lovely film, but I couldn't concentrate on the plot once Jude took his shirt off. At one point I think he actually looked straight at me!
Ali Hasip
Could be one of those low budget films, as there are only four actors in the entire film. Very bad.
Dave Curran
The worst film I have ever sat through (and after seeing Legally Blonde (both), that is saying something). No attachment to the characters. No real story to keep me interested. Basically, I didn't care about anybody, or anything in the film.
Madison Prendergast
Amazing, touching, involving and beautiful.
Leela Hunt
This film, even though wasn't the happiest story in the world was very well made. Dialogue and script were excellent, especially the performances by Clive Owen and Natalie Portman. I would highly recommend this, but if you are shocked by harsh swearing, then prepare yourself.
Alison Allen
This movie kept my interest from start to finish. Despite the disappointments felt by each of the main characters, I couldn't quite bring myself to feel sorry for any of them. None were truly innocent and none were wholly to blame. That's life!
L Dean
This is the most depressing comment on the state of human beings a have ever seen. It is bleak, empty and almost entirely without human feeling. The character of Alice is the only vaguely redeeming element to this black hole of a movie. Save your money, time and happiness and avoid it like the plague. Mike Nichols must be a very angry bitter man indeed - if only there were fewer than one star.
David Kravitz
Beautifully acted by all in this virtual 4-hander, Owen is outstanding. Basically wordy with little action, it holds and grips you from first frame to last.
The language is not for the faint-hearted and the chat-room sequence is the highlight.
L Ryan
Brillant film - particularly the chat room scene between Dan (Law) and Larry (Owen).
Alex Durrant
Really bad, the film was all over the place and had no structure - a real waste because the perforances were good.
Katie Long
Awful film, I was so disapointed. The horrible chat just made me feel sick to my stomach! Sure, certain elements of people act like pure trash, but do we have to view it!?! Suprised Julia Roberts would take on such a film.
Catherine Kallon
CliveOwen is truely superb in this film and saves it from being completey dull from the emotionless, lifeless and talentless Jude Law.
Diane Thorne
Brilliant!!! Great story that anyone who has been in a intense relationship will relate to.
Owen out acts Law a thousand times. Law's part is meant to be the lead but you'd never know it.
Excellent film but not one for a first date as it is extremely sexually charged.
Clive Owen shines and it is clear that we will be seeing a lot more of him in the future.
