The actor landed his big break when a two-day stint on the Oscar-winning Traffic turned into two weeks' work as DEA Agent Ricky.
He attended Tulane University and Boston Law School before heading to California where he landed a role in 1997's Speed 2 in his first audition.
"If I had the cure-all remedy for heartache I'd be a billionaire. I'd bottle it and call it 'Enrique Murciano's Own.'"
"I may have had one line, but the back of my ear became famous," he said after six months filming led to one brief speech.
Three years later his work on Traffic led to Ridley Scott casting him as Sgt Lorenzo Luiz on the action thriller Black Hawk Down.
In 2005, he appeared alongside Speed 2 co-star Sandra Bullock in the sequel Miss Congeniality 2.
