Pride And Prejudice Submit your own review for this movie

Pride & Prejudice

Keira Knightley delivers a career-defining performance as Elizabeth Bennet in only the second big screen adaptation of Jane Austen's classic tale of love and misunderstanding. She captures the eye of the outwardly snobbish Darcy only to discover appearances can be deceptive. Debut director Joe Wright is rewarded by top-notch performances from a cast including Matthew MacFadyen, Brenda Blethyn and Donald Sutherland.

I adore Pride and Prejudice more than any book and thought that no film could ever portray the story of first impressions and love triumphing quite like Jane Austen. I was pleasantly surprised, however, when I watched the movie. It was beautiful, Keira Knightley played a good Lizzie Bennett as she was headstong and witty just like Austen's Lizzie.

I adore Pride and Prejudice, more than any book and thought that no film could ever portray the story of first impressions and love triumphing inspite of judgement, quite like Jane Austen. I was pleasantly surprised however when I watched the movie, it was beautiful, Keira Knightley played a good Lizzie Bennet as she was headstong and witty just like Jane austen's Lizzie. I think praise goes to Matthew Mcfadyen who in portrayed an excellent Darcy who showed the arrogance of darcy superbly!

A director's homage to Ms Knightley rather than to Ms Austen! Lacking the emotional trials & tribulations evoked by the novel or the far superior BBC dramatisation. The only positive was Mr MacFadyen, whose smoldering eyes should win a BAFTA for their portrayal of suppressed passion! His screen presence outshone that of Ms Knightley, even when the camera barely moved from her view and who, I suggest should take speech lessons as I found her diction incomprehensible in parts!

I was absolutely impressed. I know the story by heart but still I felt the tension : "Will they overcome their pride and show their love or not?". It was beautiful, very romantic but not sugary sentimental and the chemistry between the two main characters was great. You can feel Mr. Darcy's emotions simpering under his cold exterior and Kiera showed she can carry a movie easily. The creators of this movie succeeded in making Jane Austen's great story a timeless epic.

I just can't fathom how this film is managing to receive so many great reviews. It's diabolical! Unless you've read the book or seen the BBC version you won't have a clue what's going on or indeed who any of the characters are. The plot has been condensed beyond all recognition..the acting is ok at best and cringeworthy the rest of the time. The, obviously, first time director comes across as having an unhealthy obsession with Keira and Mathew McFadyans hands, bizarre. You've been warned!
