Superman Returns

There's little rust on the Man of Steel and his reappearance after swooping into cinemas in 1978 barely shows signs of metal fatigue. Brandon Routh winningly forges a rough approximation of Christopher Reeve's Superman eve if Kate Bosworth is miscast as his former lover Lois Lane. Lex Luther's (Kevin Spacey) world domination plans veer on the barking while director Bryan Singer conjures up the odd off-kilter moment and a splendid crashing plane setpiece above New York.

As a Smallville fan Routh could never be as good as Tom Welling and after Smallville it should recreate the film. However, this film does not follow the plot at all...why do Clark and Lois look like they barely know each other and have hardly any interaction when they've been friends and worked together in the past? I can't figure out what this flm has been bulked out with but it seems to be pointless. However, saying that I'm about to watch the film again! May be its better the second time...

The film is pretty much a remake of the original. And that is why it isn't as good as you will have hoped. This is SUPERman & therefore he needs SUPER villains to fight.

This film was a splurge of CGI rather than any real plot. Superman himself was not the stalwart representaion of humanity a generation of film making has lead us to expect but spent the duration of the picture mincing aound like a catwalk model. Also, the ending is absolute nonsense. How can human parents discipline a child with superhero powers? They can't. This issue of broken homes may well be a sad but true representation of society today, but should inocent children be exposed?

Dissapointing. Superman has more humanity than to leave his only child with a stepfather. What happened to our society that even Superman has a broken family?? Seriously now, there was far too much emphasis on special effects and not enough plot. Orignal Superman (Christopher Reeves) is still the best. Let's burn this reel of film and never talk about it again.

Superman Returns is not the action packed adventure you might expect but for ardent fans it has been brought back to life as a tribute Christopher Reeves version of the Man of Steel. Brandon Routh's likeness to Christopher Reeve made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck and his superb portrayal captured everything that made the original movies a success. I loved the film but I think kids will find it a little lacking in pace and it's length. Still the action when it comes is stunning!

This was everything I was expecting and more...people might argue not enough action... but Superman is more than a guy that can fly and break anything in half - he is the epitomy of hope. I hope it won't be too long before the next part is released because this was awsome.

Superman Returns and boy is it with a bang! This film flies past you faster than the main man himself. With outstanding special effects, a gripping plot- which you'll figure out 5 minutes in but still enjoy- and consistent good acting prompting all the right emotions. I was sceptical going into the cinema but it was well worth it having compared it to the past offerings of Spiderman, X-men and other similar comic book tales. 12A rating but personally I'd say it was suitable for all ages.

I think Superman is my favourite superhero movie of all time. This film is great, the special effects are outstanding and the good scenes are action packed. This film also has a bit of emotion in it and for die hard fans, Lex Luthor is more sinister in this film, he gets the upper hand over Superman. So if you haven't even seen any of the old Superman (Christopher Reeve) films I would recommend you go & watch it anyway. Fantastic film. Brandon Routh is great as The Man Of Steel. Superb. 10/10

Agreed there is a lot to compare this movie to the original. However when considering that this is broadening out to a brand new younger audience you can accept this. The thing I found most fascinating was the use of technology and SFX graphics to show the full potential of Superman's powers. The airplane scene was amazing and the remark about plane safety at the end was just so typically Superman. Very funny. Bring on the next one.
