War of the Worlds
Spielberg adapts HG Wells' century-old sci-fi thriller for the big screen in a stunning blend of awesome special effects and accomplished storytelling. Tom Cruise is the divorced dad fighting to save his two kids from an alien invasion force that shows no mercy. Dark and disturbing, populist, blockbuster entertainment doesn't come much better.
What could be simpler? "We want your planet, so we're gonna kill you all". This film really doesn't beat about the bush. Within 20 minutes or so you get to see a human being vapourise in front of your eyes. Followed by many more. My jaw fell open with the time an effort the film makers, lead by the indescribable Steven Spielberg, put into showing us the full scale horror of an alien invasion. Tom Cruise excels with acting ability in this film along with a very strong supporting cast. Frightening
Keith Bruton
A great film, but rushed ending.
Mohamed Jamil Ayaz
This is an amazing Movie. I have seen it so many times - stunning special effects. Another good movie by Steven.
John Pearce
A good entertaining film to watch, but prefer Jeff Wayne's version.
Hasan Durmush
Best Disaster Movie Ever!
Daniel Connor
Superb. An excellent story of how a father must risk his life to save his kids. The effects were brilliant. Steven Speilberg has yet to make a bad film.
Philip Fox
Too good to rate, but i'll give it five stars anyway!
Lee Folkard
Very disappointed. The effects were superb, but in general it lacks the quality of the original. Cruise is good, but you have to question why this was not a better remake of the chilling original since Spielberg clearly makes top notch blockbusters. The machines looked kind of realistic, but it all got a bit boring near the end. I would advise you to watch it, but only to see the effects.
Hannah Mehmet
Brilliant. I will never get tired of this film.
Nathan Hoar
WOW! It's absolutly brillant. Really loud and quite jumpy at times. The story is great. Funny to start with and the special effects are awsome. This is the best diaster movie I've ever seen.
Elle Cohen
I loved this movie! Special effects were incredible and the storyline was very gripping! Ending could have been better but its a definite must-see!
David Jones
Good action and special effects; the Martians are particularly effective. But I prefer the classic 1952 version starring Gene Barry where we see more of the battles with the Martians. The new version is too much about Tom Cruise.
Hannah Ward
The film was worth watching, though it ended rather suddenly. Some scenes in the middle could have deleted so that the ending could make a greater impact. I would recommend you to see the film, it was a good watch!
Bo Pedersen
On leaving the cinema I was initially impressed, the special effects are astounding. But then the storyline kicks in, yes the 'holding the family together' bit is classic Spielberg, but what about the rest of the world?
How come that camcorder works?
The army didnt seem to try too hard to stop them.
The ending was absolutely unbeleiveable, how bad!
Mr Spielberg you get an F, now go home and do it again.
Maybe the director's cut will fill in the missing bits?
Fiona Todd
I've never read the book but now I've seen this fantastic film, I plan to. As usual Tom Cruise delivers a star performance in his role as dysfunctional father whose character does a complete turnaround and manages to look after his children for once and manages to save the day!
Julie Whinn
The people who have given this film less than 4 stars must have something wrong with them. Not sure what they want to see at the movies but I was on the edge of my seat for the whole time, fantastic film, fantastic special effects, apart from the poor ending the film was flawless.
Steve Watkinson
Very poor. For Spielberg's standards there's no edge of seat stuff. The original was much more impresive and to be honest more scary. The tripods looked like something out of Star Wars.
Sam Moore
How can you not like this film, its absolutly amazing with some great special effects, good story line and wonderful acting.
Lee Elwell
Breathtaking and spectacular, THE BEST modern remake of a classic ever. Through many of the scenes my eyes were like saucers. The film has an impact like no other, you HAVE to see this.
Carl Clare
Great film overall but ruined by an unbelievable ending.
Sophie Allen
Fantastic, a film that will be remembered for a long time to come. Film of the Year!!
John S
The opening narration, changed slightly from the original text, read by Morgan Freeman, sets the scene perfectly as does the omnious soundtrack.
The first thing Spielberg does is establish the characters. This is done in a relatively short time and sets Tom Cruise up as loser dad.
After the storm sequence when Cruise leaves his house to investigate, the tension is cranked up masterfully. Spielberg knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats.
Dean Reed
Best film I have seen this year.
Susan Leigh
A really good film, well worth watching.
Songohan Paulo
Magnificent. A history well maked. A movie to never be out of time. Everyone should go and watch at least one time.
John Hannon
Yet another America saves the world film. What happened to keeping to the original story-line of the original film, which was made on a vast smaller budget. It had its moments, but no, not impressed much. Having seen all the American disaster movies, this did nothing to alter the fact that we still have good independent film makers.
And the lead character would have been better suited to anyone else but Tom Cruise. He didn't look old enough to have fathered the kids.
Joseph Howell
This is the worst movie Spielberg has ever done. Everything electrical in the city is made inoperable. Everything; toasters, clocks, phones, and cars - but somehow Tom has the ability to make one car work.
The alien come from millions of miles away to devastate the earth, yet somehow they forgot to bring their spacesuits... oops.
They've waited for centuries to enact this calculated plan to ...uh... drink our blood. Stupid!
Maxwell R.
Miss this film, and save two hours of your life! This is a puerile, vacant rush job of a film ... a huge disappoinment by any standard, but even more so by that of the usual Spielberg excellence.
H.G. Wells cannot be resting easily in his grave.
Michael H
Fantastic. Don't misst it.
Johann Von Hofbrau
Vintage Spielberg. Don't miss under any circumstances....
