Charles Harris
The former projectionist and short-story writer made his feature debut with the Jewish rest home comedy Paradise Grove.His early career included stints as a freelance photographer and cinema projectionist before working as an editor for the BBC.
Moving on to documentaries, his first work Marc Chagall: The Colours of Passion won awards at Melbourne and Hemisfilm.
Other work included the part-dramatisation of an air crash investigation Downburst before he turned from fact to drama.
In 1982, he directed episodes of the soap Brookside and he also improvised dramas for Channel 4 and fringe theatre.
He made his big screen debut in 2003 with the comedy Paradise Grove, starring Ron Moody and Rula Lenska.
