In 1969, Jerry along with brother David and college friend Jim Abrahams, created a series of hilarious spoofs, and formed the Kentucky Fried Theatre.
After a raunchy debut with The Kentucky Fried Movie, the team first enjoyed mainstream success with Airplane, and followed with Top Secret! about an Elvis-like surfer (Val Kilmer) battling Nazi-Communists in East Germany with the aid of the French Resistance.
Jerry made his solo debut and scored a huge success with the supernatural thriller-romance, Ghost, which earned Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar.
Jerry directed and produced First Knight, a retelling of the Camelot myth, after which he served as producer on the romantic comedy My Best Friend's Wedding.
He returned to directing with comedy Rat Race, which he also produced.
