Dennis Quaid is the tough detective and Ellen Barkin the even tougher assistant district attorney in this well-paced and slightly different thriller. The steamy New Orleans backdrop adds colour to the drama of murder, drugs and police corruption, making this an absorbing watch. Quaid is very good as the cool detective and Barkin rises above her stereotyped strait-laced legal eagle character to produce a performance of real passion. Although the story may not be startlingly original, director Jim McBride packages it into a fast-moving and stylish thriller.
