A pre-Hollywood Antonio Banderas co-stars as Ricki, handyman and fantasist who, having spent most of his youth in a mental institution, goes about pursuing the woman he loves in a pretty unconventional way - by kidnapping her, tying her up, looking after her and waiting for her to fall in love with him, so that he can marry and have kids!

The object of his warped affection is Marina (V ictoria Abril), a porn-movie star with whom he once had a one-night stand.

Shot in very bright colours, this romantic black comedy is a muddled affair that some may find tasteless.

And it is never clear what the film-maker is trying to say or with whom his sympathy lies.

Still, Abril gives an engaging portrayal of her shallow character and Banderas has a certain charm.
