Howitt made his writing and directing debut with the international box office hit Sliding Doors starring Gwyneth Paltrow.
His next movie AntiTrust, starring Tim Robbins and Ryan Phillippe, won him a Golden Goblet for best director.
In addition to directing, Howitt has also acted in many successful movies including In the Name of the Father and Some Mother's Son.
Television work includes Kiss and Tell, Civvies and Killing Me Softly.
He recently directed Rowan Atkinson in the amiable Bond spoof Johnny English.
Upcoming projects include the feature film The Other Half, which he also wrote, and Laws of Attraction starring Julianne Moore.
