This is basically the story of bodysnatchers Burke and Hare (and Dr Knox) with the names and places changed. The opportunity to make a serious film from a true story has, alas, been spurned. Dr Thomas Rock (Timothy Dalton) is an experimental medical man who needs fresh cadavers upon which to work. Fallon and Broom (Jonathan Pryce and Stephen Rea) are happy to supply them. Dr Rock asks no questions. The blunt-instrument treatment here produces a sub-Hammer shocker with a surprisingly predictable but unconvincing end. There's poor acting from people who should know better (Dalton, Pryce) and a pretty limp script. Curious footnote: the offending screenplay was based on an original written in 1948 by Dylan Thomas!
