Art and passion are blended in this shallow, overblown biographical romantic drama about the 19th-century sculptor Rodin (Gérard Depardieu) and his romance with his pupil, the talented and sensual Camille (the resistible Isabelle Adjani). When their affair goes wrong, Camille is driven to drink and madness. The film looks marvellous and its period detail is stunning, but director Bruno Nuytten (an award-winning cinematograopher making his directorial debut) just lets it go on for ever.
