The actress won critical plaudits for her portrayal of a divorcee Marion in Francis Ozon's romantic drama 5x2 and also appeared in Spielberg's Munich.
The sister of Carla Bruni (a former squeeze of Mick Jagger), she won a Cesar (French Oscar) for most promising actress in 1993 for Les Gens normaux n'ont rien d'exceptionnel.
In fact, she made her screen debut in 1989 in La pauvre petite milliardaire Paulette and first attracted attention in 1991's Fortune City.
In 1994, she had a small role in the romantic drama La Reine Margot and tended to stick to roles in her native Italy or France.
She was nominated for a second Cesar (for best supporting actress) for Mon Homme in 1996.
In 2003, she was nominated for anothe Cesar for best debut with the autobiographical comedy drama Il est plus facile pour un chameau.
The following year she starred opposite Stephane Freiss in 5x2 and went on to play a randy mum in the farce Cockles & Muscles.
Other work has included Francis Ozon's Time To Leave and Spielberg's Munich, the thriller featuring the assassination of Israeli athletes during the Olympics.
