Great title, good supporting cast: if only the two stars had the charm required to carry the rest. Betty Lou (Penelope Ann Miller) is a meek and mousy librarian lady with a policeman husband (Eric Thal) who ignores her, a boss who bullies her and friends who think that she's just plain dull (on this showing, they've got a point). To grab their attention, she confesses to a murder she didn't commit - and, instantly shy Betty Lou becomes a national celebrity. In the tradition of the best screwball farces, things soon go hopelessly wrong, and the result is a sweet, if ultimately bland comedy romp. Cathy Moriarty, William Forsythe, Julianne Moore and Xander Berkeley are all better value than the stars.
