Authentic Mississippi locations and a good sense of period combine to help get a feel for Mark Twain's classic tale of young Huck Finn, who escapes from his brutal father and --- meeting up with Jim, a runaway slave --- sets off on a series of adventures. Elijah Wood's Huck is a little too cute to be the self-reliant ragamuffin the book describes, but all the supporting cast, including Jason Robards, are spot-on.
