A veteran of TV movies, Allen's big screen debut came with the well-received World War One psychological drama Regeneration set in Scotland.

This was followed by literary zombie comedy Clutch, Tail Lights Fade and Wish You Were Dead with Christopher Lloyd and Mary Steenburgen.

Next came a starring role in Liberty Stands Still, where she played the wife of a gun manufacturer held hostage by a father seeking revenge for the murder of his schoolgirl daughter.

She can also be seen in Lone Hero with Lou Diamond Phillips and Fancy Dancing with Jason Priestley.
