Helen McCrory gives some soul to this offbeat action adventure as a young mother with four kids, driven out of their home after an arson attack, who embark on a series of smash-and-grab raids, doggedly pursued by a strangely sympathetic cop (Toni Collette). John Hannah brings his warmth to this film as the heroine's good-for-nothing husband who acts as the family's unwilling getaway driver. A tall, anti-social story ambitiously tries to mix realist drama with comedy, thriller action and semi-fantasy and cram it all into an American-style road movie format. No wonder it comes a bit of a cropper! Maybe worth a look for the actors and a listen to the guitar-led score.
