The actress first attracted attention in the Disney drama Remember The Titans with Denzel Washington as a football coach fighting racism.
Panettiere made her first commercial aged just 11 months and, aged four, she was cast in the American TV soap One Life To Live.
She made her feature debut in the romantic comedy The Object Of My Affection with Jennifer Aniston and also voiced Dot in A Bug's Life.
Subsequent appearances included Message In A Bottle, voicework for Dinosaur and Remember The Titans.
Panettiere appeared in the lacklustre Affair Of The Necklace and opposite Tim Allen in the romantic comedy Joe Somebody.
In 2002, she was originally cast to play Sarah Altman in Panic Room but was later replaced by Kristen Stewart.
In Ally McBeal, she played Maddie Harrington and was the orphaned daughter taken under the wing of Kate Hudson in Raising Helen.
In 2004, she starred in the animatronic children's yarn Racing Stripes about a zebra that thinks it's a racehorse.
