The face of steel-clawed X-Man Wolverine, Jackman is now landing high profile roles in Hollywood blockbusters.
He studied drama after gaining a communications degree with a journalism major from the University of Technology in Sydney.
After leaving, Hugh was offered a starring role in the TV prison drama Corelli, opposite his future wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
Several television guest roles followed, as well as stage work in the Australian production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard.
His credits include lead roles in several Australian independent features, including Paperback Hero and Erskineville Kings, for which he was nominated for Best Actor by the Australian Film Industry in 1999.
Hugh received his big screen break in X-Men in 2000, and followed his roots to Britain to star on stage in Trevor Nunn's revival of Oklahoma! ! at the National Theatre and then in London's West End.
Lead roles have followed as a computer hacker opposite John Travolta in Swordfish and the romantic interest in Kate & Leopold, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe.
Recent work has included his reprisal of the role of Wolverine in X-Men 2 and the vampire thriller Van Helsing.
