Although this one is predictably well directed by Wes Craven, the 'Scream' films have long since parted company with logic and the third is a straightforward slasher flick that cheats by telling us something we thought was true from previous films isn't true, then cheats on itself - since even this isn't true. Once again the killer turns out to be someone previously unseen and again Sidney (Neve Campbell) is soon fleeing up stairs and through corridors - bizarre that she wouldn't have a 24-hour guard - as the more expendable members of the cast are chopped down in her wake. Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox Arquette have their roles off pat, while Parker Posey is more fun than usual as the actress playing Cox's character in Stab 3. The killer predictably storms back from the dead at the end but the franchise itself seems mercifully dead and buried.
