The former commercials and music video director's debut feature was the black comedy One Night At McCool's starring Liv Tyler and Michael Douglas.
He went on to helm serviceable junior Bond spoof Agent Cody Banks with Frankie Muniz and Ian McShane.
A graduate of Amsterdam's Dutch Film Academy, Zwart, who grew up in Norway, began to get offers after his student film Gabriel's Surprise was a hit on TV.
Concentrating on advertisements, he did work for Mini and Nokia and also directed the music video Velvet for A-Ha.
His Scandinavian mini-series Commander Hamilton, starring Lena Olin and Mark Hamill, was released as a successful feature length movie.
After being accepted into the American Directors' Guild, he was named by Variety as one of 10 Directors to Watch.
