In the clash of the acting titans - Eric Cantona versus Michel Serrault - our Eric makes a great footballer, at least as evidenced by this slice of gallic country capery. Cantona plays a quite unpleasant rugby-playing adulterer, while Serrault is a rather doleful owner of a toilet factory in Dole, eastern France. The atmospheric film looks good, and makes you long for one of those long, hot summer holidays, where the worst that ever happens is that your cognac and great meal arrives a few minutes after you order it. Sumptuous and scumptuous. even if it's dramatically as flat, slow-moving and soggy as the marshland of the area. As subtle as a serpent, Serraut shows yet again why he may be THE great living French movie actor. From the director of the hysterical Tatie Danielle, and it couldn't be more different.
