Bad enough waking up in the morning to find your partner dead to the world. But with a knife plunged through his chest? With her history of alcoholism and blackouts and an assault conviction, Jane Fonda decides that calling the police may not be a good idea here. Luckily for her, she runs into Jeff Bridges, an ex-cop who decides to help her solve the murder. Quite a tense thriller results from this beginning, although it loses steam a bit towards the end. Fonda and Bridges are very good, but increasingly the film focuses on their growing relationship rather than the murder, which is what slows it down. Still, the dialogue is solid and you've got to keep watching to find out whodunit. It's a pleasant time-passer for fans of the stars, who won't find their favourites over-extended.
