The son of a dentist and a dancer, after acting in productions in and around his native Boston, Evans moved to New York and worked at a casting agency and at a drama school.
He had bit parts on various TV sitcoms like Boston Public before scoring a role in the family drama The Newcomers.
In 2001, he played a high school jock in the teen parody Not Another Teen Movie and followed it with a role as a cheating student in The Perfect Score.
