The actress-turned-director first attracted attention with the movie How I Killed My Father.
She made her screen debut in the German TV series The Mysteries of Paris and appeared in the David Hamilton feature Cousins in Love.
In 1993, she made her directorial debut with Love Affairs Usually End Badly and went on to make the comedy Augustin.
"I actually find that when you write or make films, you are liberated from your sexuality. In a sense, you are asexual being behind the camera."
After the short Night Hustler, she co-wrote and directed the drama Nettoyage e sec with Charles Berling.
Returning to comedy she made the sequel Augustin, King of Kung-fu before helming the art house hit How I Killed My Father.
In 2003, she made the erotic drama Nathalie with Gerard Depardieu, Fanny Ardant and Emmanuealle Beart.
