The Wind That Shakes the Barley
Director Ken Loach's recounting of the formative years of the IRA during the 1920s may suffer from the occasional jarring romanticism but offers a compelling study of the complexities surrounding a pivotal episode in Irish republicanism. An excellent Cillian Murphy plays the doctor-turned-freedom fighter who finds his political awakening fuelled by the casual brutalities of the British Black & Tans in rural Ireland.
Excellent film that plays on the heart strings of any true Irishman.

An excellent film showing a snapshot of the overthrow of British rule by the Irish people after hundreds of years of being under occupation. A lot of things were left out due to time limits, but still a great film to make you sit up and think about what Britain really stands for.
Sharon Collins
A really fantastic, moving film. The acting is wonderfully natural with Cillian Murphy utterly convincing in the lead role and wonderful back up from Padraig Delaney and Liam Cunningham. An absolute must see movie to gain an insight into Irish history in the 1920's. A heart wrencher that I shed tears to (which is always a good sign for a movie). The film is a worthy winner of the Palme D'Or. Well done Ken Loach & Paul Laverty.
